The last day of the year. The year of the selfies. This is Brazil. This is the beach. This is the pinnacle of selfy-culture. Girls and boys of all ages capture their beach bodies on camera in the pool, in the dunes, drinking caipirinhas, holding each other, at sunset. Preferably, all of the above combined in one shot. We are not just talking about a casual snap-shot from a mobile phone. For amateurs. These beach bodies come prepared with selfy-sticks, go-pro cameras, iphones with apps to control the go-pro, and bikinis in colors matching the pantone background. I am getting carried away. Not sure it is the narcissistic selfy-culture or the bikinis that cause this wandering of the mind.
We are here to ride the waves and wind. To windsurf, to sleep, to eat. Nigel the antagonistic white cockatoo from the movie Rio 2 would likely rephrase it as
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or, to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And,by opposing, end them.
But I guess he, as well, got this from someone else.
Stay tuned. Hang loose. All the best for 2016.
